Applications Invited for League of Innovative Students

The Iowa City Community School District has long been a member of the League of Innovative Schools, a group of just over 100 districts nationwide that are recognized as forward-thinking leaders in educational practice, with a goal of designing, validating, championing, and scaling innovative learning opportunities that impact students. Through this consortium, ICCSD has participated in research and program development in areas like data equity, computational thinking, data interoperability, and emerging technologies.

With this in mind, I was excited to learn last year that Digital Promise, the parent organization of the League of Innovative Schools, is launching a national network of high school students called the League of Innovative Students. This is a network centered on student voice, with a goal of seeking and amplifying students’ unique perspectives on educational topics such as equity and social justice.

Application Process

Digital Promise recently opened applications for the first League of Innovative Students cohort, which is open to high school students attending League of Innovative Schools districts, including ICCSD. Our students are leaders in the state and the nation, and I’d love to see ICCSD one or more ICCSD students apply to be a part of this cohort. Interested students can learn more about the League of Innovative Students here, and can access the application form here.

Applications are due at 11:59 PM PT on November 11th, 2022. If you are an ICCSD high school student who is interested in this opportunity but would like to learn more, or a parent or staff member who is interested in learning more before recommending this opportunity to a student, please feel free to reach out to me at kurth.adam@iowacityschools.org to learn more about the League itself, or the work that has been done and is planned for the future as it relates to this group.
