One of the most recent, available MacOS updates provides an ominous message at login anytime you are using a second display.

This message is shown in the top right corner and states that “your screen is being observed”. In theory, it’s great to know that your screen is being watched by others. However, in practice, this pops up whenever you are plugged into a second monitor or even connecting wirelessly to the screenbeam. This has led to some confusion making Mac users believe someone has remoted into their computer and is actively viewing what they are doing. However, this is not necessarily the case.

While it’s safe to ignore this message when you are using multiple displays, if you are ever concerned about unauthorized access to your device, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Help Desk by phone at x4357 or email at helpdesk@iowacityschools.org.
